• Pope Benedict will be the thrid pontiff to address the United Nations General Assembly. The occasion will be one of his first major international exposures -- an opportunity to clear his reported views and be better understood.
  
  

• The World Press Freedom day will be celebrated in early May. Various U.N. offices, particularly UNESCO and the Department of Public Information, are expected to launch initiatives.
  
  

• More intensified efforts on climate change are anticipated after a meeting in Bangkok of a U.N. working group.
