A number of senior editors from the Arab world are expected to attend a
U.N. seminar 1 - 5 March 2004. The main purpose will be to review the U.N. image,
particularly that of the Secretary General, in that region.

The question of Cyprus is likely to seize the attention of U.N. officials
as of mid-February. Earlier proposals are expected to be reviewed following a
high-level meeting in New York as the deadline is fast approaching as both
Turkey and Cyprus seek to enter the European Union.

The Special Representative for Afghanistan is to be appointed to replace
Lakhdar Brahimi, who returned to New York. A French national is likely to be
named.
