  • A number of senior editors from the Arab world are expected to attend a U.N. seminar 1 - 5 March 2004. The main purpose will be to review the U.N. image, particularly that of the Secretary General, in that region.

  • The question of Cyprus is likely to seize the attention of U.N. officials as of mid-February. Earlier proposals are expected to be reviewed following a high-level meeting in New York as the deadline is fast approaching as both Turkey and Cyprus seek to enter the European Union.

  • The Special Representative for Afghanistan is to be appointed to replace Lakhdar Brahimi, who returned to New York. A French national is likely to be named.
