  • As the race for the next Secretary General warms up, expect more governments to present names, preferably but necessarily from their country

  • With the re-assignment of the U.N. Representative in Cyprus to New York as Assistant Secretary General, a new representative for Cyprus is expected to be nominated before the month of May

  • A new Secretary-General for the League of Arab States is expected to take over in July, after the incumbent, Nabil El-Araby, indicated that he will not be renewing his concluded five-year assignment. Update: The Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs met 10 March in Cairo, electing Ahmad Aboul Ghait, former Egyptian Foreign Minister and also its one Permanent representative to the U.N.
