September 2017

  • September 19 will be the first time that new U.S. President Donald Trump will address the U.N. General Assembly Debate with a new U.N. Secretary-General at the podium. As Head of the U.N. Host Country, his statement -- and the reaction of over 120 attending heads of member states -- will be of interest.

  • A special meeting of the Security Council at heads of state level has become a habitual event late September. Ethiopia is this September's rotating president -- it will be interesting to observe which heads of Permanent Security Council members will attend.

  • While U.N. Secretary General Guterres called for a high-level meeting 18 September on Measures to Protect Women in Peacekeeping operations, the U.S. Mission to the U.N. wrote to certain countries, inviting their visiting heads of state to meet that same day with U.S. President Donald Trump on Reform proposals. Others were preparing to call for meeting on other pressing issues. Who will attend which meetings? More questions could add to more confusion on the eve of the official opening day.
